chip it!

Have you heard about Chip It yet?  All I can say is
"How handy is that?"

So what is it and how does it work?

What:  Sherwin-Williams came out with a tool that matches the colour scheme from any picture on the net and displays them for you!

How:  Simply drag the Chip It button onto your toolbar
find any picture on the net
click the Chip It button and it'll instantaneously match the colours in the room
and you can save them, print them..do whatever you want with them.

Sherwin-Williams sure hit the nail on the head with this!  Head on over to test it out for yourself here!  Just think of all the possibilities...pulling colours from pillows, curtains, pictures, nature.. you name it.  The beauty of this too is that you can just print out the colours and colour match wherever you go!

This works extremely well with Pinterest....you all must know Pinterest by now too right?!  You can find my Pinterest boards here.

Happy Chipping!

Sweet Paul

Why have I not seen this before now?

Do you remember Martha Stewart Kids magazine?  It was one of my favourite magazines and I used to get all giddy when my subscription would arrive in the mail.  You can only imagine my grief when they stopped the magazine.

Well Sweet Paul has filled my void!

Not only is his blog fan-TAB-u-LOUS...but there is also an online Sweet Paul Magazine too with an option to buy the printed copy of the issue.  Stunning photography, recipes, crafts, decor...and lots more!

Be sure to stop by and see Paul for many more sweet ideas!

hallway love

Oh hey!  I know I know it's been awhile...a LONG while {shame shame no excuses here}.  And you're probably thinking...all this time, months really, and all she's got are hallways?

Well sir, do I love halls?  Halls to me are very important yet sometimes overlooked spaces.  They lead you and set the feel for what is to come...like an invitation...come follow me.

The April issue of Style at Home magazine did a piece on designer Amanda Nisbet which included this fabulous hallway above.  Just look at all the amazing detail in this space!  Let me count the ways...the arches, the orb & sconce lighting, the sisal rugs, the panelling and linen wallpaper...all come together with stunning perfection.

More arches.  I think I just may have a new obsession to add to my very long list.

MMmmmmm mmm, if I could eat it I would.  This hallway makes me smile with all it's sunshiney brightness.  Makes me wanna take my closet door off...if only I had such beautiful blankies to display.  And those lights!

Planked ceiling and built ins provide mucho cozy for this pass thru.

Destiny, from A Place for Us, tranformed her cookie cutter hallway with the simple addition of homemade signs.  Love this look?  Destiny gives a wonderful tutorial here.

Not quite the hall hallway, but I had to sneak in another arch : )

Happy Weekend All!

bathroom talk

Good day ladies, for those of you who are following along with me, you know I'm attempting a little bathroom makeover. However, I have a problem. See, I like to start things and if they don't get finished in around the first 2 days...I wanna move on??? and then nothing gets done. I've tried...I'm trying to stay focused. I have to remind myself that I am working on one project and stay away from thinking about what you would like to do in other rooms. Does anyone else have my problem? urgh.

Keeping on track, today I painted the last coat of paint on my bathroom cabinet doors, so they will go up soon. ( I really wanted to start painting Ava's room today) but Yay, the cabinets look seriously good considering I painted them myself : ). Now I have to look up all that I can about taking tile down off my walls that are surrounding my tub. I want to be totally prepared when I bring this up for the last time with Mr. vG {aka Party Pooper}. I love him to bits and he's cute as sin...but we agree to disagree. So I have gain my ammunition....please if any of you out there in blogland have beadboard around your tub you need to let me know everything there is to know!

Again here is the surround panelling I'm after:

My renos will take a long while yet, so in the meantime, more amazing bathrooms...

I've just noticed that almost all of my inpsirational bathroom photos has an old fashioned tub...yeah, I told Mr. vG that was one of my dreams...he said I'd better get some sleep???   Guess that means no?

chanelling paneling...

Time and time again, I find myself drooling over rooms with paneling of any sort.  Wainscoting, beadboard, board and batten and other mouldings alike make me weak in the knees.  Something about it provides the perfect sense of cozy warmth.  A staple so to speak...kind of like your favourite pair of jeans.

I adore this picture. The painted paneling, those amazing old wood floors and don't even get me started on that built in book shelf... {sigh}

While you're at it, add it to the ceiling too!  Why should it be all lonely up there?

This entryway is stunning with the floor to ceiling detail.  I usually don't care for crown moulding and baseboard to be painted out with the wall, but here it seems to work beautifully.

Imagine these rooms without their decorative wall detail.  Sure they would still be nice rooms, but the paneling provides the perfect backdrop and commends that extra element of warmth and texture.

And {sigh, sigh double sigh} beams are high on my wish list!  Again floor to ceiling paneling topped with beamy goodness.

Horizontal placement is making a big stir these days....and for good reason...gorgeous!

Melaine from Sweet Savannah has added all the perfect touches to make this a most inviting family room.  I love every detail in this room, but of course, sing it with me now....paneling!!!

The picture below is what I'm trying to talk my husband into doing around our soaker tub. Currently, it is surrounded with tile....it's the same tile that is on our floor, the wall around the tub and in front of the tub. Really it looks like someone threw up tile in my bathroom. Mr. vG doesn't like the idea of mixing wood with water...it's the man in him... I only see the beauty in it. What do you think? Anyone have paneling around their tub?

Some exciting news for me...a few days ago,  I got my Dash & Albert rug in from CSN.  It is amazing!  So amazing that I painted my bathroom 2 hours after the rug hit the floor.  The new wall paint only spurred me on more and I am now in the process of painting the cabinets and framing a mirror...let's all of us cross our fingers as tight as we can that I just might get some PANELING of some sort in my bathroom!!!  Pretty please with extra sugar!  More on this soon : )

over the top pumpkins

I've been keeping a folder of pumpkin photos that I really love. I just couldn't edit any of them out...so there a quite a few pictures : ) Hope you enjoy them...

I love stacked pumpkins...but isn't this a great idea to carve out your house numbers?

Some people are just so very creative...what sweet little pumpkin owls using sunflower seeds for the ears, eyes and claws.

I love this whimsical look ... pumpkin hotel for mice is mighty nice.

How cool is this giant shadow up the stairs??? You could probably cut out the shadow using bristol board and tape it to your risers using double sided tape. Big impact on a budget I'd say!

I think this is about the coolest thing I've ever seen! Paint a shadow tree on your pumpkins, stack em up and voila....could it really be that easy???

I'm hoping to try this out this year...I think it'll look smashing beside my new Dead & Breakfast sign.

I never would have thought of putting a mask on a pumpkin...but I totally love it.
Hope you've enjoyed all these amazing ideas! These pictures and ideas came from Martha Stewart, Country Home, Country Living, Susiebeezie and Family Circle.
